BANGOR–Hundreds of dogs and their owners will parade along the Bangor Waterfront and along Main Street on Saturday morning, Sept. 30 to raise funds for the Bangor Humane Society and to celebrate the relationship we share with our pets. Last year’s Paws on Parade raised over $75,000 during the agency’s largest annual fundraising event. This year’s major event sponsor is Cross Insurance.

The Society’s 24th annual Paws on Parade will feature a mile and half walk around the Bangor waterfront to raise awareness for homeless pets in our community and to celebrate pet companionship. The event will also feature dog costume, Alumni of the Year, Best trick and other pet contests, prizes and giveaways, a runway highlighting some of the shelter’s current dogs available for adoption, and many vendors will be on site.

Walkers include pet lovers, dogs of all shapes and sizes and plenty of Humane Society Alumni.

People can register online at or on the day of the event. They can also stay up to date with event details by visiting or, or contacting Stacey Coventry at the Bangor Humane Society at 942-8902 ext 103.

Additionally, join a Pre-Paws Pawty to kick off the event and help raise additional funds.

On Friday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. at the Next Generation Theater in Brewer, the Focus Group will be doing an Improv Comedy show (for mature audiences only) to help promote Paws and raise money. Tickets are $10.

Other Parade highlights: A variety of local vendors will be onsite, food from Texas Roadhouse, a Pet Blessing given by Reverend Marguerite Steadman to initiate the walk, and the cast of the upcoming Beauty and the Beast holiday show at Penobscot Theater will help lead the parade through downtown.
