Brian Knowlton of Dexter elected Grand Chef de Gare

Brian Knowlton of Dexter was elected Grand Chef de Gare (State Commander) of the Forty & Eight Grande du Maine at the 97th Annual Grande Promenade on June 15, 2017 at Bangor.  He is pictured with his father LeRoy Knowlton of Dexter, age 94, who was Grand Chef de Gare 1970-1971.

The Forty & Eight is an independent, by invitation, honor society of American Veterans and honorably serving members of the US Armed Forces. Its purpose is to uphold and defend the United States Constitution, to promote the wellbeing of Veterans, their widows, widowers, and orphans, and to actively participate in selected charitable endeavors, which include among others, programs that promote child welfare and nurses training.

The Forty & Eight received its name from the train box cars used for transport in World War I France which held 40 men or 8 horses.
